Johnston1 Johnston2HUDSON FALLS – Robert M. Johnston, 94, of Feeder St. passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born on May 29, 1921, in the town of Kingsbury, he was the son of the late Ralph and Frances (Bromley) Johnston.

Bob was a 1940 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater under General George Patten.  He was a Purple Heart Recipient.

On Nov. 29, 1942, he married the former Shirley M. Yarter in the St. Mary’s Church Rectory in Hudson Falls.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked a short time for J. E. Sawyer in Glens Falls.  For the next 34 years, Bob worked at General Electric Company in both the Hudson Falls and Fort Edward plants, retiring in 1983.

Bob was a member of Post 6196 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Queensbury.  His enjoyments included hunting, fishing and gardening.

In addition to his parents, his sisters, Dorothy Lee and Marilyn O’Neal, passed away before him.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Shirley Yarter Johnston of Hudson Falls; three children, Thomas H. Johnston and his wife, Cynthia, of Wilton, Marcia E. Bolesh of University Place, WA and Barbara A. Hunt and her husband, Willis, of Bennington, VT; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; his sister, Carol A. Ives and her husband, James, of New Hampshire; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Friday, January 8, 2016, at the St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the Park in Hudson Falls.

Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the village of South Glens Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to the BCARC (Down Syndrome), 395 South Street, Pittsfield, MA 01120 or the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

Roberts family would like to thank his caregivers, Sandra, Terry, Sara, Renee and Jackie, from Fort Hudson Home Care for all their care and compassion.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
