Robert E. Newell

Newell, RobertHUDSON FALLS – Robert “Bob” E. Newell, of Main Street, went into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.“When someone you love becomes a memory – that memory becomes a treasure”.  (author unknown)

With great sadness, we as a family mourn the loss of our beloved Bob.

How do you measure the wealth of a man?

Born on August 1, 1937 to Grace Ryan and Clinton John Newell, Bob was the third oldest of what would become GRN7.

Being recognized as an “All American” afforded him many opportunities, after graduation in the 1950’s.   Life and circumstances changed however and Bob returned to Fort Edward to help raise his younger four siblings.  He accepted the role of pseudo Dad with the same passion as he did throwing the perfect spiral.   Always caring, loving and selfless, he become our mentor.

In 1957, he began his lifetime work as an electrician with Hercules/Ciba Geigy.  He remained there until closure.  Bob continued to work in his chosen field, plus general contracting/maintenance up until this past year.

Along his journey in life, he remained true to himself and his upbringing.  Integrity and kindness would always prevail, always knowing he was not perfect and recognizing his faults.   He took command of a room with his presence, his laugh was infectious and his eyes were always smiling.

Bob was predeceased by his mother, Grace Ryan Newell; his son, Robert; his grandson, Brett; brother, Bill; sister in law, Pat, as well as Paul, Steve, Chris, Tom and Mary Gilmour.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Regina and their blended family; Nan Newell, Paul (Elsa) Newell, Jonathan (Jennifer) Newell, Linda Newell, Jeanne McKenna, Erin (Fred) Breglia, Girard McKenna and Patrick (Seneca) McKenna; his grandchildren, Kaitrin, Kiana, Mark, Jeffrey, Brandon, Evan, Lauren, Taylor, Freddy and Michael; his siblings, Tom Newell, Nancy (Chuck) Caputo, Jane (Ed) Healy, Jim (Gail) Newell and Mary Anne LaBruzzo; sister in law, Anne Newell; hundreds of nieces, nephews, greats, great greats,  cousins and so many loyal friends, especially his Music Ministry Choir.

Don’t mourn Bob’s death.   Instead, celebrate his life.   Be amazed by the grandeur of the mountains, find peace with the roar of the ocean, walk in the rain, get lost in the music and always remember to dance.   Do not take time for granted, look into the eyes of your family and always see the beauty.

The wealth of this man is measured by unconditional love.  Bob was the richest man on earth, a gentle giant, a master of life.  We will miss your comforting hugs.

Friends may call today, Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Following the cemetery service, everyone is welcome to McManus Hall to celebrate Bob’s life.

The family suggests the memorial donations be made to High Peaks Hospice, 79 Glenwood Ave., Queensbury, NY 12804 or C.R. Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801 or Alzheimer’s Association Research, 4 Pine West Plaza, #405, Albany, NY 12205.

I did not know your brother, Nancy, but the beautiful obituary describes a people person similar to the vivacious friend I discovered on East LaClaire street back in the early 70’s with the neighborhood gang. And I did not know your wonderful father, Jonathan, but I know you and your commitment to the Hudson Falls community, so accept my condolences for your loss and heaven’s gain. You’re dad’s legacy of kindness lives on in you and your Newell family.
