Robert C. “R.C.” Smith

FORT EDWARD – Robert C. “R.C.” Smith,90, of Fort Edward, died on Monday November 30, 2015.

Born July 21, 1925, in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Corydon D. Smith and Rose (Peets) Swatling.

Bob was a 1942 graduate of Fort Edward High School.

He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Gunners Mate 2nd Class during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

On April 20, 1947, he married Loretta Yule at the Hudson Falls First Presbyterian Church.

R.C.  was retired from the NYS Canal Corp and was a member of the Fort Edward Masonic Lodge.  He liked sports, especially basketball.  Bob enjoyed staying home spending time with his family.   Most importantly, R.C. was a good father and a good husband.

Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his two sons, Terry Smith and Tommy Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Loretta Yule Smith of Fort Edward; his daughter Barbara Chase and her husband, Fred of Argyle; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.

Friends may call on Friday, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted following the calling hour, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Michael Plank, pastor of the Hudson Falls First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Following the service, the burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Memorial donations in memory of R.C. may be made to the SPCA of Upstate New York, 588 Queensbury Ave., Queensbury, New York 12804, or to a charity of one’s choice.

    There are many good memories of Bob Smith over the years.He was a favorite cousin to my Dad, Joe Peets. Bob was a great father, husband, and terrific person to all.He had a wonderful sense of humor and a big heart for all, including animals and children. Condolences to his loving family and prayers.Peace to all. Many good thoughts from Jan and Dot and family.
