Rousseau MilitaryARGYLE – Richard Anthony Rousseau, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017, after an ongoing illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 10, 1938, Dick was the son of the late Howard and Bertha (LaValley) Rousseau.

Richard attended Hudson Falls School before enlisting in the US Army in 1955.  While serving in the army, he became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.  Dick was very proud of his service to our country.  He loved to talk about is time stationed in Germany.  Following his active duty service, Dick served for some time in the Glens Falls National Guard in Glens Falls.

Dick had a special love of old cars and ding body work and painting them.  He had a special car his 1951 Mercury four door.  Some of the best times in his life were spend with the CB Club and Car Club attending shows.  Dick also loved the outdoors, he would go camping with his family at Sportsman Paradise at Trout Lake, where they have a wonderful extended family and friends who always stopped to talk to and spend time with Dick.

Dick worked for 39 ½ years at Decora in Fort Edward and had many good friends and he retired from there in 2000.

Dick married the love of his life. Elizabeth Ann Winchell on January 23, 1965 in South Granville.

He will always be remembered for his good kind and loving nature he had about him, no matter how hard times would get.  He would say “Don’t worry, God will take care of it.” And “Always give God all your faith.  Dick had a special passion for this Lord Jesus and wanted to tell everyone about him and even told many people who would listen, how to get to heaven.  He was very proud of being able to be a part of the crew to build his church, the Cornerstone Outreach Church in Hudson Falls on Route 196, for God’s glory, where he was a member and was always willing to be a helping hand.  Richard liked going for coffee and hotdogs at the Venus on River Street in Hudson Falls and to visit with all the guys and talk about the old days.

Richard had one special space in his heart and that was for his great grandson Dujon “DJ”, together they spend all day, every day with each other and Pop and DJ would share everything.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, and mother in father in law, Charles and Dena Winchell, his brother, Howard Rousseau, Jr. and Alice Hamner and Joyce Matrow.

Dick and Liz have one son. Richard A. Rousseau, Jr. and his companion Lettie Easton of Granville. Two granddaughters, Natashia Rousseau of Syracuse and Elizabeth A. (Rousseau) Manley of Argyle; one grandson, Frisco S. Rousseau of Argyle; two step grandsons, Joseph Brooks od South Glens Falls and Nicholas Crum of Queensbury; 1 great grandson, Dujon L. Manley, Jr. of Argyle; his sister Teresa Henderson and her husband Bob of Florida; her brother, Elroy Rousseau of Durkeetown; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial with full military honors will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at Morningside Cemetery in Hartford.

The family would like to extend many thanks to the Glens Falls Hospital nurses, who took care of Dick, Dr. Kamal, Dr. Patracca and Dr. Gray for their care and Dr. Tedesco for seeing him through his comfort care.

    Liz, so sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. Can’t imagine you without him, as you were as solid a couple as it gets ! Meant to be together forever……and you will be again one day. Please give Dickie our condolences. Gwen, George, Sarah and family.
