HUDSON FALLS – Edwin Elmer Morse of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, November 29, 2022. He was 86.

Born February 27, 1936, in Brandon, VT, he was the son of the late Elmer and Anna (Crossman) Morse.

Edwin attended Slysboro, Hudson Falls, and Fort Ann Schools. He served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in Guam, Korea, England, Turkey and Vietnam.

On November 24, 1955, he married Rhoda Carpenter in Fonda, NY.

Edwin had a green thumb and spent many hours gardening, growing various vegetables and flowers to share with his family and friends.  He was known for being meticulous about his lawn and prided himself on its appearance.  He enjoyed playing the lotto and, in his younger years, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping with his family.  Edwin also enjoyed square dancing with his wife, Rhoda.

Besides his parents, Edwin was predeceased by his wife, Rhoda Morse; his children, Randy Morse, Melinda Chase, and Phyllis Armitage; brothers, James, William, Robert and George Morse; and his sisters, Nada Morse and Sandy Kearns; his granddaughter, Sara and grandson, R.J. Morse.

Survivors include his daughter, Penny Delocco (Charles); his grandchildren, Randi Delocco, Anthony Delocco, J.C. Chase, Aaron Armitage, Michaela Armitage, Melanie Angarano; his great grandchildren, Antonia Delocco, Shauna Delocco, Patrick Armitage, Gianna Angarano, Dominick Angarano and his good friend, Vanessa Ross.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, where both Edwin and Rhoda will be laid to rest.

HUDSON FALLS – Lisa E. VanNess entered peacefully into rest and was received into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022. She was 58.

Born on September 25, 1964 in Glens Falls, she was a life-long area resident and one of 16 children raised by her parents, Margaret (Winters) VanNess and the late Leo C. VanNess.

Lisa was educated through the Prospect Child and Family Center as well as WSWHE BOCES. She participated in many day programs and activities through CWI and Saratoga Bridges. She was a poster child for the Cerebral Palsy Association of New York and was always a strong advocate for people with disabilities.

Lisa had a huge personality and enjoyed working at the Adirondack Welcome Center on the Northway as a greeter for visitors. She lived her life to the fullest, taking in many adventures including horseback riding and taking a helicopter ride. Lisa loved adventure and liked to dance, listening to music and go to concerts. An artist at heart, she was very proud to have some of her artwork displayed at the Hyde Museum in Glens Falls.

In addition to her father, Lisa is predeceased by a sister, Sharon Jenkins; and two brothers, Leo and Kenneth VanNess.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret VanNess of Hudson Falls; her brothers and sisters, Margaret Quirk (Richard) of Hartford,, Edward “Butch” VanNess (Stella) of Arizona, Linda Dugan of Ballston Spa, Janet LaFay (Ken) of  Hudson Falls, Virginia Whiting (Fred) of Gansevoort, Arthur VanNess (Diana) of Hartford, Gary Jenkins of Hudson Falls, James VanNess (Judy) of Hudson Falls, Gail Wittmer (Barbara) of Buffalo, Tina VanNess of Hudson Falls, Laurie Havens (Mark) of Argyle, Steven VanNess (Lisa) of Fort Edward, Thomas VanNess of Fort Edward, Timothy VanNess of Hudson Falls, and Bill Barber or Hudson Falls; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of extended family and friends.

Friends are invited to call from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. A graveside service will follow at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

A gathering will follow the services at Dix Avenue Diner for those who would like to attend.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Lisa’s loving family at her home on Church Avenue in Ballston Spa. The care she received was second to none.

GLENS FALLS – Matthew Jay Chambers, of Glens Falls, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at his home. He was 67.

Born on May 16, 1955 in Glens Falls, he was a life-long area resident and son of Lena (Underwood) Coons and the late Ralph Chambers.

Matthew worked for several years at the Former C.R. Bard, now Becton Dickinson, in Glens Falls. He was a graduate of Queensbury High School and after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country from 1974 to 1978. Matthew then went on to get his Bachelor of Science degree from Oneonta University.

Matthew was an avid Dungeons and Dragons player and played with his nephew, Zachary, and several other friends.

In addition to his father, he is predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Chambers; and a nephew, Randy Jenks.

He is survived by his mother, Lena Coons of Warrensburg; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Ed O’Brien of Wilton; and his niece and nephew, Robin Jenks, Zachary Potter-Chambers, and Cale Potter-Chambers.

Services will be at a time to be announced.

HUDSON FALLS- Patricia Ann Keenan, 86, of Pearl St., passed away at her home on November 22, 2022.

Born on December 25, 1935, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Irenus and Alice (Stoughton) Keenan.

Pat was a 1955 graduate of Whitehall Central School.  For 26 years Pat was employed at Chase Bag Company in Moreau.  In 1990, following her employment at Chase Bag Co., she worked as a therapy aide for New York State.

Pat was a communicate of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. And a member of the Hudson Falls American Legion Auxiliary Post #574.  She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and in her younger years was an avid golfer.

Besides her parents, Pat was predeceased her sister, Helen Carpenter, and her brothers, Robert and James Keenan; her niece, Kathy Carpenter and a nephew, Michael Keenan.

Survivors include her daughter, Adrienne Goodman and her husband, Alex; her grandchildren, Ernest, Maureen (Gio), Alex (Erica) and Owen; her nephews, Patrick, Robert, Sean and Timothy Keenan; her niece, Elizabeth Gregory and her brother-in-law, Roderick Carpenter.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Desmond Rossi, officiating

Burial will follow the funeral service, on Thursday, at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

KINGSBURY – James “Jimmy” Yates, 80, a longtime resident of Kingsbury, most recently of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

Born June 23, 1942, in Woodbury, CT, he was the son of the late James Edward and Charlotte (Karrmann) Yates.

James was a graduate of Woodbury High in 1961.  After high school, he proudly served in the United States Marines.  During his military career he served in the military police as a Presidential Guard for President Johnson and he volunteered to go to Vietnam, where he served as a Staff Sergeant of the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion.

On September 20, 2019, James married his longtime companion, Jeanette Hamblin in Hudson Falls. 

James was a hard worker throughout his life, after his service to his country, he worked on the family farm in Kingsbury, where he raised his children.  He then went on to work as a sub-contractor and then a carpenter for Cifone Construction Co.  After retiring he returned to farming, on the Mattison family farm.

He was a member of the American Legion, Post 574, in Hudson Falls.  He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing throughout the Adirondacks.  For the last 9 years, during the winter, alongside his wife, James snow birded to Florida.  While in Florida, James volunteered his time, helping at the local food pantries. James will be greatly missed by his beloved puggle, Wiggles, whom he took for many walks throughout his day. Everyone who knew James will remember him as a good man, always willing to take care of those in need. He made a strong, lasting impact on those who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Yates; his first wife and mother of his children, Alice Yates; his children, Jennifer Yates (Earl), James A.  “Jay” Yates, Niccolla (Jaime) Shaw, Michael (Elizabeth) Yates; his bonus children, James (Christine) Hamblin and Lisa Sweet; his grandchildren, Emilio Yates, Michael Boisvenue, Raynebow and Xaivier Shaw, Michael S. Yates, Daniela Yates, Tyler and Jimmy Hamblin, Ricky Sweet and Lakisha Gray; his great grandson, Matthew Bullard; his brother, David Yates, as well as several nieces and one nephew.

Friends may call Saturday, November 26, 2022, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

Burial will take place 12 p.m., on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville with full military honors.

HUDSON FALLS – Robin S. Larsen, 61 of Hudson Falls, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022.

Born on February 24, 1961, in Glens Falls, She was the daughter of Marguerite (Smith) Waite and the late, Frank E. Waite.

Robin grew up in Hudson Falls and was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School. She went on to Elmira College and earned her Bachelor’s degree, becoming a Registered Nurse. She worked for 5 years as an RN for corrections until her retirement.

Robin is predeceased by her father, Frank E. Waite; a sister, Wanda Fisher; and two brothers, Frank Waite and Kenneth Fisher.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Marcus E. Larsen of Hudson Falls; Her mother, Marguerite Waite of Hudson Falls; her sisters, Nancy, Peggy, Carol, Madalyn, and Theresa; her brother, Rick; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Pine View Cemetery on Quaker Road in Queensbury.

HUDSON FALLS – Lorraine (Lemery) “Memere” Bigelow of Hudson Falls passed away November 19, 2022.

Lorraine was born on March 30, 1925, to Albert and Alice Lemery of Glens Falls and attended St. Mary’s School. Lorraine was the widow of Emerson Bigelow, whom she was married to 59 years, before his passing in 2001.

Lorraine in her younger years loved to fish, hunt, camp and bowl. She played pinochle, did embroidery, watched her favorite baseball team, the Yankees.  Most of all, Lorraine was famous for her breads, fried fish and applesauce.

Besides her husband and parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her son, Lawrence Guy (Little Whitey) Bigelow in 1990; her sisters, Julia Wood, Jane Allen, Barbara Celeste and Dorothy Crowley; her brothers Roland (Bucky), Harold, Irving, Romeo (Lester), Lawrence (Whitey) Lemery; as well as a grandson in law, Mike Hauf.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Bigelow and daughter in law, Sylvia Bigelow; her grandchildren, Rick Monanhan and wife Becky, Rusty Monahan and wife Sherri, Requel (Racket) Hauf, Roni and husband Jason Vadnais, Randi and husband Brad Ramby, Corinn Bigelow and Jason Bigelow; 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

GLENS FALLS – Clarence L. “Cubby” Douglas, Jr., 92, of Glens Falls, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, at his home.

Born September 23, 1930, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Clarence L. Douglas, Sr. and Alice (Abare) Douglas.

Cubby grew up in Fort Edward and was a graduate of Fort Edward High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he met and married his wife, Anita Gross. Upon being honorably discharged, Cubby and his wife returned to the United States and resided in Glens Falls for the last 60 years. A few years after serving in the Air Force, He enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves.

Cubby worked for General Electric in Fort Edward as a technician, retiring in 1988. 

He was a talented woodworker and had a passion for creating period type furniture.  He loved all animals, including cats, and regularly fed the squirrels and birds.  He also enjoyed photography, taking many photos of his wife’s beautiful flower garden.

Besides his parents, Cubby was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Goodman.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Douglas of Glens Falls; his children, Nancy (John) Bemis of Glens Falls, Jean Robinson of North Carolina, James Douglas of Glens Falls, Richard (Karen) Douglas New City, NY, Robert (Mary) Douglas of Ballston Lake, and Anita (Stephen) Aronoff of Scarsdale, NY; his siblings, Edward Douglas of Florida, and Karen Mello and Ruth Douglas, both of California; as well as eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes, services are private at the convenience of the family.

HUDSON FALLS – Kyle Matthew Brunelle, 33, passed away unexpectedly, at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

Born March 18, 1989, in Glens Falls, he was the son of William and Bonnie (Springer) Brunelle.

Kyle was a graduate of Hartford Central School and after high school earned his welding certificate from Modern Welding School in Schenectady.

He was employed by Doty Machine Works, Inc. in Fort Edward, as a welder.

Kyle had a passion for cars, specifically Subaru’s.  He recently discovered his enjoyment for fishing with Grandpa Fred, and was an enthusiast of music and playing guitar.  Kyle was also an avid Minecraft player. He looked forward to all the family get togethers, making memories with the people that mattered most.  Family was the centerfold of his life.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his significant other, Alecia and daughter, Penelope.  The newest member of the Brunelle family, Miss Dahlia Mae is expected to join the family in February.  He was a great father and could often be found playing hide and seek with Penelope. 

Kyle was predeceased by his grandfather, Alfred E. Brunelle; his grandmother, Anne M. Brunelle; his aunt, Mary E. Potts; his uncles, Carter Johnson, Alfred E. Brunelle, Clifford P. Brunelle, John I. Brunelle; his grandfather Frederick Augustus Springer, Jeannette Springer; his aunt, Jacqueline Springer and cousin, Amanda Cherney.

Survivors include his parents, William and Bonnie Brunelle; his sister, Emily (Wayne) Denton, his loving partner, Alecia McDermott; his daughters, Penelope Anne and Dahlia Mae Brunelle; his sister, Cheryl Brunelle; his brother Michael Brunelle (Sarah); his cousinaunt, Daphne (Jon) Pellish and several aunt, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

HUDSON FALLS – On Saturday, November 12th, 2022, Fred Quackenbush, passed away peacefully at the age of 90.

Fred met his wife, Mary Jane Kryszczak, while she was vacationing in Lake George with friends. They were married on April 9, 1961. Eventually they made Hudson Falls their home where they raised their children, Mark, Barry, and Sherri. Before meeting his wife, he was in the Army during the Korean War and later supported his family with employment at Ciba Geigy.

Fred was active in the community as a volunteer firefighter, coaching local sports teams, and as a school crossing guard.

To say he was an avid hockey fan is an understatement. He is best known to the locals for his love of hockey. He was inducted to the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017 as a “builder of the game of hockey in the Adirondack region.” He was a season ticket holder for over 30 years and over the course of six different franchises. He could always be found in section A at the Civic Center rooting for the local team. He was a member of the Adirondack Hockey Booster Club since its inception in the 1980s and was on the Booster Club’s board. Fred collected hockey memorabilia from around the world and enjoyed giving a tour of his collection which was once even featured in the Post Star.

In the hockey offseason, he could be found working as a Box Seat Usher at the Saratoga Racecourse. He took his position as Box Seat Usher quite seriously and in August 2012, The Saratogian wrote an article on his passion for being an usher and stated, “If they ever made a Mount Rushmore for racecourse ushers, Quackenbush’s likeness would probably be on it.”

Amongst Fred’s other hobbies were NASCAR and hunting with family and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane and best feline companion, Charlie.

He is survived by his children; Mark (Deborah), Barry (Donna), and Sherri; his grandchildren, Kristy (Louis), Sean (Tara), Jonathan (Leah), and Derek (Jesse); and his great-grandchildren, Lucian and Holden.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., on Friday, November 18, 2022, at St. Mary’s/ St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will take place 1:30 p.m., at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater, with full military honors.
