Margaret “Peg” Lewis

lewis-margaretHUDSON FALLS – Margaret “Peg” Lewis, 87, of Burgoyne Ave, went to be with her husband, on September 7, 2016, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center in Fort Edward.

Born on September 26, 1928, in Kingsbury, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Puhaida.

Peg was a 1945 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  While in high school, she met her soul mate, Em Lewis.  They were united in marriage on April 19, 1947.  Together they shared 60 wonderful years, until his death on March 9, 2009.

1949 was an eventful year for Peg and Em, they opened their first store, Lewis Grocery Store on Martindale Ave in Hudson Falls.  In 1965, they built their current location on Burgoyne Avenue in Hudson Falls.  The store was their heart and soul.  Peg took care of the business, while Em entertained the customers.

They loved to travel the world and explore different cultures and food with their friends, the Sulli’s from Schuylerville.  Years ago, Peg and Em were active in a local card group, traveling to friend’s homes, playing cards, sharing stories, enjoying food and good times.  Peg was also an avid NY Yankee fan.  Most of all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Peg is survived by her son, Emrys L. Lewis, III and his wife, Deborah of Hudson Falls; her three grandchildren, Erik Lewis (Rachel) of Hudson Falls, Matthew Lewis and his wife, Chrissy of Queensbury and Kyle Lewis (Jakie) of Hudson Falls; her great granddaughter, Vivienne Lewis of Queensbury; her sister, Theresa Hogan of Hudson Falls; her brother in law, Tom Lewis and his wife, Terri of Mass; her sister in law, Joan Lewis of PA; and several nieces nephews and cousins.

Calling hours and services will be private.

The Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Center for the wonderful care given to Peg.

    Although I have lived out of State for many years, it seems like whenever I went home to visit my parents in Fort Edward, I always went to Lewis’s for something! I remember your Mom and Dad fondly from the store. My thoughts and prayers are with all your family.
