Loretta E. Smith

Smith, LorettaFORT EDWARD Loretta E. Smith, 89, of Fort Edward, peacefully went into the arms of the Lord, at her home, on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Born on January 20, 1929 in Whitehall, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Rita (Wells) Yule.

Loretta grew up in Hudson Falls and was a longtime member of the Hudson Falls First Presbyterian Church.  On April 20, 1947, she married Robert “RC” Smith at the Hudson Falls First Presbyterian Church.  RC passed away on November 30, 2015, after 68 years of marriage.

After many years of service, Loretta retired from Scott Paper Company.

She devoted her life to raising her three children. Loretta was a kind soul, always putting others needs before her own.    She loved animals and would be the first to lend a hand in their rescue and care.   Loretta never turned her back on any animal in need, including her “pet” fox.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sons, Terry Smith and Tommy Smith, her sister, Marion Havens and her husband, “Deed”, her brother, Robert “Piper” Yule, her sister, Jane Beale and her husband, Don and their son, Gary; her sons in law, Tony Coveleski and Fred Chase.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Chase of Argyle; her step granddaughter, Tami Coveleski Field of Queensbury; her nieces, Cynthia Nacua and her husband, Steven of Hebron, Marcia Smith of South Glens Falls, Sheila Patten and her husband, Paul of Hudson Falls, Susan Yule of CA and Patty Klemarczyk and her husband, John of NH; her nephews Thomas Havens and his wife, Sarah of Greenwich, Edward Havens and his wife, Lisa of Kingsbury and Robin Yule of CA; and her loving and devoted cousins, neighbors and friends.

At Loretta’s request, services will be private.

Burial will be in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to SPCA of Upstate NY, PO Box 161, Hudson Falls or the charity of one’s choice

 “Never say goodbye, say, so long”.
