Lois J. “Sis” (Skellie) Oliver

OliverFORT EDWARD- Lois J. “Sis” (Skellie) Oliver, 84, formerly of Bascom Dr. since 1962, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on January 23, 1930 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Alice E. (Reid) Skellie.

Lois was a 1947 graduate of Argyle High School and on October 6, 1956, she married Olin L. Oliver in the South Argyle Presbyterian Church. Olin passed away 39 years later on April 19, 1995.

Her working years started at W.T Grant Company in Hudson Falls where she spent four years. From there she was employed at the First National Bank of Hudson Falls which in 1963 was purchased by the First National Bank of Glens Falls which later became Evergreen Bank and TD Bank. Lois was Vice President and manager of the Kingsbury Office of the Bank, when she retired from banking, in 1991. Lois was a dedicated banker for 32 years and only missed one day of work.

From 1995 to 1998, she worked part time for Diet Workshops. Lois also was External Appraiser for the evaluation of the school program in business and the Statewide System of Occupational Education Evaluation from 1981 to 1983.

Her involvement in various organizations was extensive. She was the treasurer of the deacons and served on various committees of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls. Other affiliations included 20 years as treasurer of the Hudson Falls Kingsbury Chamber of Commerce, past vice president and in 1983, Woman of the Year, for the Hudson Falls Business & Professional Women, past president of the past Washington County Branch of the American Cancer Society, past board member and president of the Adirondack Girl Scouts, Board of Directors of the 60 + Senior Citizens of Hudson Falls and Fort Edward and the American Red Cross and a past committee chairman for Group Five of the NYS Banker’s Association. Lois received volunteer awards too numerous to list.

In addition to volunteer work, Lois enjoyed walking, gardening and spending time with her loving family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Skellie and Loris Skellie, and two nephews, Paul Skellie and James Skellie.

Survivors include her sister, Sharon Bain and her husband, Ronald of Hebron; her brother, Willard Skellie of Glens Falls; her special nieces and nephews, Sean Bain of South Glens Falls, Gretchen Bain and her husband, John Hill of CA, Aimee Bain and her husband, Mark Thompson of Ballston Lake, Allison Bain and her husband, David Shreiber of NJ, Jonathan Bain and his wife, Kimberly Bolster of Ballston Spa, Lorraine Weatherwax and her husband, Toby of Greenwich, Lindsey Skellie and Terel Skellie, both of Glens Falls, Barry Skellie and his wife, Betsy of Argyle, George Skellie of Argyle, Angela Breen and her husband, John of New Hampshire, Rosemary Curtis and her husband, Thomas of Argyle and Paula Liddell and her husband, Eddie of Greenwich; several great nieces and great nephews; many cousins; and her special friend, Roberta Clute of Hudson Falls.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls with the Rev. Michael Plank, officiating.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Her family suggests that memorial donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 9 River St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or the American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9, Mt. Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY 12804.
