SOUTH GLENS FALLS – John Basher, Sr., 85, of South Glens Falls, passed away with his family at his side, on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness.
Born April 22, 1929, in Granville, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Rabic) Basher.
He served with the U.S. Army as a medic.
John retired as a machine operator for General Electric in Fort Edward after many years of service.
He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s/ St. Paul’s Church in Granville and most recently, St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls. John was a past member of the Granville Rescue Squad and Fire Department, and also a member of the Granville Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, doing puzzles, shopping and he loved the holidays. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with his family.
Besides his parents and wife, Theresa Basher, John was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Lynn Basher, and his siblings, Anne Kepchar, Helen Hritz, Sue Strich, Mary Shinglar, Julia Pekar, Katherine Labas, and George Basher. John is also predeceased by his wonderful, loving companion, Evanna Welsh
Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Barlow and her husband, Richard of Hudson Falls and New Port Richey, FL; his son John Basher, Jr. of South Glens Falls, his grandchildren, Heather Benway and her husband, Matthew Arsenault, Nicholas Basher, Dylan Basher; his great grandchildren, Olivia Grace Arsenault, Aurelia Sage Arsenault; his siblings, Pauline Beretta of Rutland, VT, and Theresa Pacyna of Granville as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at 11 a.m., at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls with the Reverend Guy Anthony Childs, pastor, officiating.
The Rite of Committal will follow the mass at St. Peter’s/St. Paul’s Cemetery in Granville.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
