Joan M. Kelly

KellyHUDSON FALLS – Joan M. Kelly, 77, of Pleasantview Drive, went into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on December 17, 1938, in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (McConike) Fitzgerald.

Joan grew up in Newark, NJ.  Her family then moved to Gansevoort, where she eventually met her lifelong friend, Joan Diamond.   Joan and Joan remained close friends for 63 years, until the day she passed away.

While working at General Electric Co. in Fort Edward, she met her future husband, Philip Kelly.  They were married in September of 1966, in Granville.  Together, they hosted many parties and family gatherings at their home on Pleasantview Drive.  When a dance floor was available at any gathering, Joan and Joan delighted everyone with the jitterbug.   Philip and Joan shared their lives together until his death on January 5, 1998.

Joan’s was devoted to her faith and she made it a part of her life.  She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church and was devoted to saying her Rosary every day.  She was also an original member of the Tiger Tracker Booster Club.  Joan enjoyed watching her sons and grandchildren playing sports.  She was an avid lover of following tennis and especially enjoyed watching Nadal, who was her favorite player.

Joan was a caregiver.  Her purpose in life was to take care of those around her.  She began by caring for her parents, her siblings, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Joan’s love and support will be greatly missed by her family and all those who had the pleasure to meet her.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, John Fitzgerald.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Kelly and his wife, Melonie of Fort Edward and Patrick Kelly and his wife, Roxanne of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Caila (Kelly) Shaw, Alyssa Kelly, Jessica Kelly, Bethany Kelly and her boyfriend, Victor Woodworth and her only grandson, Michael Kelly; her great-grandchildren, Alexander Shaw, Patrick Shaw and Gianna Kelly; her siblings, Ron Fitzgerald, Robert Fitzgerald, Linda Cicone, Dian Brow and Judy Ross; and several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her best friend, Joan Diamond of Hudson Falls.

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the Park in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Tom Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
