James “Jim” LaBrake

HUDSON FALLS – James “Jim” LaBrake, 69, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, with his loving family by his side, at Slate Valley Nursing Center in Granville.

Born on September 26, 1949 in Malone, he was the son of the late Howard and Agnes (Gokey) LaBrake.

Jim graduated from Hudson Falls High School and soon after, enlisted in the U.S. Army.   He proudly served in Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971 in the 1st Air Calvary, where he received a Purple Heart.  Jim made the U.S. Army his career for 20 years.

On July 7, 1973, he married the love of his life, Michelle Bennett at the First Baptist Church of Hudson Falls.

For many years, Jim was a welder at Valmet Sandy Hill Corp and at several other shops in the area.

He was a member of the Hudson Falls American Legion Post #574 and  the Foothills ATV Club in Hartford.

Jim loved his family above all.  He cherished the time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren, Laconia and Dakota.  They were his pride and joy.  Jim will be remembered as a hardworking man with a heart of gold, always looking out for everyone but himself.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Della LaBrake, his siblings, Eddie LaBrake, Charlie LaBrake, Jeff LaBrake, Richard Seaver and Judy Lane.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Michelle LaBrake of Hudson Falls; his son, Shawn LaBrake (Melissa) of Kingsbury; his grandchildren, Laconia and Dakota; his siblings, Billy Seaver and his companion, Arlene, Patti Boardway (Larry) and Larry LaBrake (Sandy); his nephew, whom he raised as a son, Tom Bennett; several other nieces, nephews and cousins; and his numerous brothers and sisters in law, whom he enjoyed spending time with.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 21, at PineView Cemetery in the town of Queensbury, with full military honors, provided by the Hudson Falls American Legion.

The family would like to thank Slate Valley Nursing Center and the Glens Falls Hospital, Tower 3 and Tower 4, for the great care and compassion given to Jim and his family.

The family suggests that memorial donation be made to the Patriot Guard, in care of Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574, 72 Pearl Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
