HUDSON FALLS – Harold “Hal” Carl Lundgren of Hudson Falls, passed peacefully into the loving arms of his wife, Phyllis and many beloved family members on Saturday, April 8, 2017, while residing at The Orchard in Granville.
Born September 19, 1923, in Hudson Falls, Hal was the son of the late Carl and Esther (Anderson) Lundgren.
He graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1942 and from the University of Rochester with a degree in accounting.
He served proudly in the Navy as a radioman 1st Class during World War II aboard the USS Albemarle and again during the Korean War aboard the USS Monrovia.
In 1947, he married Phyllis Long of Glens Falls. They remained happily married until Phyllis passed away in 2005.
Hal was employed by the Glens Falls Insurance Company/Continental Insurance Company for 39 years, retiring in 1989 as an Assistant Vice President in the accounting department.
Hal was a lifelong Yankee’s fan and enjoyed bowling and playing golf and was a member of the Tee-Bird Country Club in South Glens Falls. He was also an amateur photographer and enjoyed anything to do with computers. In the 1930’s, he played the Hawaiian steel guitar in the Brayden and Chapman Accordion Band and continued his love for music in the later years by playing not only the Hawaiian steel guitar but also the folk guitar.
Hal was a supporting member of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church and enjoyed following the weekly services on television.
In addition to his wife and parents, Hal was predeceased by his brothers, Einer and Robert, his sisters, Agnes (Johnson), Alphild Walsh, Edith Lundgren and Anna Whaley and his nieces, Roberta Manning and Janet Lundgren.
Survivors include his son, David Lundgren and his wife, Jean Marie of Hudson Falls and his daughters, Robin Fuller and her husband, Clifford of South Glens Falls and Jane Barron and her husband, Michael of Greenwich; his grandchildren, William Fuller, Serah Lundgren, Jonathan Barron and Alicia Barron; his great grandchildren, Kaelyn Fuller, Haylee Fuller, and newest great grandchild, William Fuller, Jr.; and several other nieces and nephews.
Hal’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granville, for their kind and loving treatment of him during his stay and especially during the end of life experience.
Friends may call from 4 to 7pm on Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. at 68 Main St. Hudson Falls.
A service celebrating the life of Harold will be conducted 11 am, on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the funeral home with the Rev. Derek Hansen of the Hudson Falls Methodist Church and the Rev. Michael Plank of the Hudson Falls Presbyterian Church, officiating.
The burial will follow the funeral service at Union Cemetery with full military honors.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials in Hal’s memory by made to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, PO Box 226, Fort Edward, NY 12828 or to the television ministry of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, 227 Main St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Sending prayers and condolences to all the Lundgren family as you grieve the loss of your Dad Hal Lundgren . We were neighbors on Preston Street and remember visiting and playing at your happy home as a child with Robin. All pain has passed now and he is safe with Jesus and his loved ones .
I have not seen Hal in many years but do retain fond memories of him both professionally and personally. I remember the many wonderful golf matches with Hal in the GF Insurance league.he was a gentleman and a delight to know. My deepest condolences to his family
It is with great sadness and sorrow to learn of Uncle Hal’s passing. Being here in Texas, we didn’t get to see a lot of him and the family over the years since my father (Robert) passed. But, we still hold fond memories of visits to Hudson Falls and his visit here to see Dad.
My dad truly loved his brother.

I was looking at my dad’s obituary and I looked up Carl & Esther Lundgren and I came across this, I am so so sorry for your lost. I loved Uncle Hal so much!! And I still remember flying up to see y’all with my dad. He loved it up there. And I love you Robin, Janie, & David. Hal is with Phillips now and those family members that passed before him and now you have an extra angel watching over you. Karen Lundgren ( Scott )
