George S. Smith, Jr.

Smith, GeorgeHUDSON FALLS – George S. Smith, Jr., 77, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on June 26, 1938, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late George and Ella (Ackley) Smith, Sr.

On February 15, 1959, he married Janice White.  Together they shared 57 wonderful years together.

For years, George was employed at Chase Bag Co, formerly of Moreau and Decora in Fort Edward.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.  George also enjoyed tending to his blackberry bushes and taking care of his yard at home.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Brian Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Smith of Hudson Falls; his brother, Leonard Smith and his wife, Katherine of Hudson Falls; his children, Terry Smith of South Glens Falls, Connie Schaefer and her husband, Dean of Fort Edward and Colleen Moreland of Kentucky; his grandchildren, Chris and Megan Smith of Hudson Falls, Randy Hodgkins and his wife, Jessica of Fort Ann, Kayla Gregory and her husband, Derek of Hudson Falls, Rachel, Eli, Jacob and Megan Moreland of Kentucky; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Rilee Hodgkins of Fort Ann; and several nieces, nephews and cousin.

Friends may call on Friday, from 11 to 12 p.m. at the Greater Glens Falls Bible Baptist Church on 2 West Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow the calling hour at 12 noon on Friday, at the church, with Pastor Guy Goodell, officiating.

Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery on Tripoli Road in Fort Ann.

The family would like to thank the nurses and helpers at the Glens Falls Hospital T3 for the wonderful care and compassion given to George.

Memorial donations in George’s memory, may be sent to the Greater Glens Falls Bible Baptist Church, 2 West Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
