Gaza “Cy” Silas Bertok Sr.

Bertok, GazaFORT EDWARD – Gaza “Cy” Silas Bertok Sr., 94, of Fort Edward, went to be with his wife and son, on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on June 16, 1923, in Witherbee, NY, he was the son of the late John M. Bertok, Sr. and Rose (Futo) Bertok.

Cy was a graduate of the Bulova/Taus School of Watchmaking, where he became a certified watchmaker.

On September 28, 1945, he married Marjorie Howell in Farmingdale, Long Island. She passed away on March 23, 2010, after 65 years of marriage.

Before moving to this area, they lived in Port Henry and Seaford, NY.

Cy worked for 15 years in aircraft quality control.  He was director of quality control on the guidance unit and stable platform of the first Thor Missile that flew in the early fifties.   Cy also worked in Medical Facilities Management.  He was most proud of his life’s work of over 60 years, as a jeweler and watchmaker.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watch collecting and was a member of the NAWCC, The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his son, Gaza S. “Cy” Bertok, Jr. and his two brothers, John M. Bertok and Ernest F. Bertok.

Survivors include his two grandsons; Shaun Bertok and his wife, Diane and Jason Bertok and his wife, Mary; his great granddaughter, Hannah Bertok; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Michael Plank, pastor, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Union Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife and son.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, 5 River St., Hudson Falls, NY.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Cy’s family and with the Hudson Falls church. Cy was a wise and gentle gentleman, and a man of faith. A life long and well-lived. I am thankful for the gift of Cy in my life for a time.
