FORT EDWARD – Esther A. Johnson, 90, of Fort Edward passed away November 12, at the Indian River Nursing & Rehab Center in Granville.

Born on October 15, 1926, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Esther (Montena) Sadler.

Esther graduated from Fort Edward high school with her twin sister, Emily in 1944.

Following graduation Esther started her career in the insurance industry. She retired from the Continental Insurance company after many years of service.  She also worked for the Zayre Department store in Queensbury for many years.

Esther was a 60 plus year member of the First Baptist Church of Glens Falls. She served on several boards and particularly enjoyed the gathering of the woman’s association.  She delivered flowers, visited shut ins and spent many hours volunteering at the church thrift store.

Esther enjoyed the numerous trips to New York City with her husband Jim, where they viewed the Christmas decorations and took in a show. She was a big fan of  hot air balloons and frequently  attended the local festival.

Esther was predeceased by her husband of many years, James H. Johnson and her twin sister, Emily S. Towne.

She is survived by her nieces, Cynthia Jackson of Livonia, Elizabeth Szuba and her husband Richard of Rochester and Rebecca Lummis of Galway and her great nieces & nephews Nicole Jackson, Alex, Max & Hannah Szuba, Kalyn and Jourdan Lummis.

Private funeral services were held Wednesday, November 16, with the Rev. Donald Shuler. Burial was in Union Cemetary, Fort Edward.

The family wishes to thank her friends and caregiver, Penny Sheedy and the staff at Indian River for the care and compassion given to Esther and her family.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
