Elinor B. Guiles

GuilesQUEENSBURY – Elinor B. Guiles, 86, formerly of The Glen, has gone to join her Lord on Friday, December 26, 2014, at the home of her daughter, with whom she has resided for the past few months, after a long battle with cancer.

Born on April 27, 1928, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Jane (Nichols) Bradway.

Elinor was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and in her fifty’s, she returned to school, attending Adirondack Community College and then in 1979 she graduated from the College of St. Rose with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences.  She was employed as a social worker for many years at Warren County Social Services and Wesley Health Care Center.

She married Richard L. Guiles on March 27, 1948, at the Zion Episcopal Church in Hudson Falls.  They met while attending Skidmore College. Elinor left college to get married and raise a family. After a long and happy 37 years of marriage, Richard passed away in 1985.

Elinor had a passion for writing and was a long time member of the Adirondack Writers Group. In her younger days she enjoyed horseback riding.  She served as a 4H leader and was an active and lifelong member of the Zion Episcopal Church in Hudson Falls.  Elinor was an avid reader and was a member of several area book clubs.

Besides he parents and husband, Elinor was predeceased by her companion, Robert Gay in April of 2014, and her sister, Dorothy Geroux.

Survivors include her three children, Clifford Guiles and his wife, Bonnie of Moreau, Kathleen Parnapy and her husband, Jim of Middle Grove, Timothy Guiles and his wife, Angela of California; her six grandchildren; one great grandchild; her brother Karl Bradway and his wife, Judy of Hudson Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday, January 6, 2014, at 4 to 6 p.m., at the Zion Episcopal Church, 224 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

A Memorial Mass and entombment will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the Zion Episcopal Church in Hudson Falls with The Reverend Richard Chandler, rector, officiating.

A gathering will be held at the parish hall behind the church after the services.  All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Episcopal Church, 224 Main Street, Hudson Falls, New York 12839.

    So sad to hear of Ellies passing , she was a wonderful companion to my Uncle Bob and I always enjoyed our get togethers at the Glen for lunch or at the Village Pizza in Galway.She is no longer in any pain and is at Peace now.So sorry I wasn’t able to come and pay my respect for her.She was a very lovely lady that I was blessed to have known.My th thoughts and Prayers are with all of her Family at this sad time, keep all your memories close to your heart and to share with one another to help you through the days ahead.
