Earl J. Bishop (Papa)

Image0235KINGSBURY – Earl J. Bishop (Papa), 84, of Kingsbury, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 2, 1933, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Wallace Sr., and Jennie (Patten) Bishop.

Earl attended Hartford School, where he was active in basketball and baseball with his buddy Bobby Wilkins, until leaving to help his father on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Joyce Spring on July 11, 1954. They shared 62 years together.

From years of work on the family farm, to helping others on their farms, Earl devoted his life to farming. He also owned and operated the Family Meat Market.  Earl enjoyed an occasional cold drink at the Wayside Inn with his good friend Paul Collins.

His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. Earl spent many summers, as captain of the pontoon on Hadlock Pond.  He also enjoyed spending time with the Patten Family at Camp Goodnow Flow in Newcomb.  Earl and Joyce devoted their lives to their kids and grandchildren.  The grandchildren never heard the word, NO.  He also enjoyed taking the grandchildren to the track for their two-dollar bets.  Earl rescued an injured Appaloosa and nursed him back to health, Lightning soon became the family pet and for many years brought joy to everyone. In later years, Earl also loved sitting in his chair and watching the birds with a bowl of ice cream.

In addition to his parents, Earl was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Joyce (Nana) Bishop, and his two brothers Wallace Bishop Jr., and Edward Bishop.

Survivors include, his daughter, Dawn Fiorillo and her husband, Stephen of Hudson Falls; his son, Robert Bishop and his wife, Debbie of Queensbury; his wonderful grandchildren include, Christina Fiorillo, Jessica Brilyea and her husband, Donald, Colton Bishop and Hannah Bishop; He was looking forward to meeting his special bundle of joy, his great-grandchild Noah Earl, due in December. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins, and an amazing Aunt Betty Lucci. Earl also was lucky enough to have many great friends to the end including his lifelong best friend, Rae Campbell.

Friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

A burial service will take place at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward following the funeral services.

    When I was young, my father built the white house across the road from the farm. Earl was very kind and took me under his wing while I lived there. We moved way when I was 12, but I have many fond memories of Earl, and think of him often still today.
    My sympathy, he was a great man.
