E. Violet “Vi” Jones

Jones, ViHUDSON FALLS – E. Violet “Vi” Jones, 90, of Hudson Falls, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2015.

Born on May 28, 1925 in Flint, MI, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Jessie (Hanes) Andersen.   Vi’s father immigrated to the United States from Denmark and her mother came from Canada.

She was very proud to have served her country in the United States Marines during World War II as a machinist.

On August 25, 1946, Vi married Dick Jones at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. Dick passed away on  January 21, 1999, after 52 years of marriage.

Vi had several jobs working as a switchboard operator, cashier and catheter maker.  Her home was also very important to her where she enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her family.

In her younger years, Vi enjoyed roller skating with her husband, Dick.  She also loved playing guitar, learning to play when she was just a child.   Vi liked to read, especially novels written by Stephen King, Agatha Christie and Dean Koontz.  She also loved dogs, including her late dogs, Laddie and Rusty.   Vi was very proud to have her pilot’s license and before joining the Marines, she was a Corporal in the Civil Air Patrol.

She was a good mom and a wonderful provider.  Vi supported and encouraged her children to do anything they wanted to do.  Her family always came first.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her eldest son, Dickie Jones; her sister, Isobel Mills; and her step mother Betty.

Survivors include her children, Wayne Jones of Hudson Falls, Chris Jones and his wife, Cheryl of Hudson Falls, Shelly Breton and her husband, Jerry Emery of Hudson Falls and Kyle Jones and his husband, Lou Barrett of Warrensburg; nine grandchildren, Wayne II, Heidi, Nic “Chance”, Ricky, Shannon, Jeremy, Heather, Brandi and Josh; many great grandchildren; her sisters, Edna Andersen of Queensbury and Elsie VanVranken of Hudson Falls; her half brother, Eric Andersen of MI; her step brothers all of MI; several nieces, nephews and cousins ; and her dog, Rascal.

Burial will be in the spring, April 29, 2016 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to The North Shore Animal League, 16 Lewyt Street, Port Washington, NY 11050.
