Donald J. Baker

Baker, DonaldGLENS FALLS – Donald J. Baker, 91, a longtime resident of Fort Ann, earned his wings and entered Heaven on Monday, December 14, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on May 25, 1924 in Fort Ann, he was the son of the late Cleon Baker and the late Florence Williams.

He was a 1941 Fort Ann High School graduate and attended the National Youth Administration Trade School in Quoddy, Maine.

In World War II, he served with the Army Air Corp 8th Air Force in the European theatre.

Mr. Baker married Ruth I. Willis on Sept. 21, 1946, at the Zion Episcopal Church.

He retired from the Washington County Highway Department, in 1987.

Mr. Baker was the past chief of the Fort Ann Vol. Fire Company, past president of the Fort Ann Rotary Club, past commander of the Raymond W. Harvey Post 703, American legion, a charter member of the Fort Ann Rescue Squad, served two years as mayor of the village of Fort Ann, and served 6 years as a trustee of the village.

In additions to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Jean Graham and Barbara Scoba.

Survivors include, his wife of 69 years, Ruth I. (Willis) Baker of Glens Falls; his children, Thomas Baker and his wife, Deborah and Ronald Baker and his wife, Arlene, all of Hudson Falls, Susan Allen and her husband, Gary, Nancy Carpenter and her husband, Craig, all of Fort Ann, Beverly Bruster and her husband, Michael of Glens Falls; his grandsons, James Allen and Debra Collette Allen, Scott Carpenter and his wife, Liz, Brett Carpenter and his wife, Michelle, Kevin Bruster and his finance Emily Murray, Jenny VanAmburgh and her husband, Brian, Janet Pratt and her husband Mike and Sara Baker; his great-grandchildren, Jonathan Allen. Renee Allen, Alexis and Emma VanAmburgh and Dylan Carpenter; and his step grandchildren, John and Tim Hack and Rachel Gregory; his step great grandchildren, Jarid Swan, Seth Gregory and Alden Gegory; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main

St., Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with the Reverend Nancy Goff, officiating

A celebration of Donald’s life will follow at the Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Company on Burgoyne Ave.

Interment will be private at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Duell Rd. in the town of Stillwater.

Pall Bearers will be James Allen, Jonathan Allen, Scott Carpenter, Brett Carpenter, Kevin Bruster and Jarid Swan.

Mr. Baker’s family suggests that memorial donations in his memory be made to the CR Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or the charity of your choice
