Clyde Robert Sanborn

SanbornHADLEY – Clyde Robert Sanborn, 83, of Lake Sacandaga, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016.

Born on October 6, 1932, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late, Susan Veitch and Carl Sanborn.

Clyde graduated from Saratoga Springs High School Class of 1952.  Following his graduation, he was an active member for class reunions.

After graduation, Clyde attended Adirondack Community College.

On June 19, 1954, he married Kay Van Derwerker at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Clyde served his country in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954.  He was also a Cub Scout Master for Pack 57, a Boy Scout Master for Troop 58, he belonged to the Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Company for 15 years, and he also was a member of the lower Adirondack Fire Police Association, the American Legion and the Floodwood Hunting Club.  Clyde’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and bowling, refinishing furniture, snowmobiling and motorcycling.

For 20 years, he owned his own, lawn mower engine business.  He had also opened Sanborn Antiques and Gun Shop for 10 years.  Clyde sold Fishing and hunting licenses for many years.  After 25 years of service, Clyde retired from the New York State Department of Corrections at Great Meadow Correctional Facility. McGregor in 1992.  Following his retirement, Clyde and Kay wintered in Moore Haven, Florida.

Clyde and his wife, Kay, enjoyed taking their boys camping and snowmobiling.  He also enjoyed touring the US, Canada and Newfoundland by motorcycle.

He and his wife lived on Moss Street in Kingsbury for 43 years.  Clyde and Kay have had a cottage on the Great Sacandaga Lake in Hadley, where they have spent many of their summers with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  They all loved to gather and participate in the ring of fire.

Clyde is an honorary member of the Community Faith Fellowship Church in LaBelle, Florida, where he helped put the first cross on the property.  It is still up on the property where the small church is.  When in New York, they attend Rockwell Falls Presbyterian Church in Lake Luzerne.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kay (Van Derwerker) Sanborn  of  Hudson Falls; his sons, Kim Robert Sanborn and his wife, Beverly of Lake Luzerne, Van Timothy Sanborn and his friend, Barb of Hudson Falls and Kip Christian Sanborn and his wife, Renia of Hudson Falls; grandchildren, Kim Robert Sanborn, Jr., Brian Sanborn, Van Matt Sanborn, Megan Sanborn-Luke, Faye Sanborn; his great grandchildren, Tyler Sanborn, Dorothy Sanborn and Elly Sanborn, Reilly Luke, and Joey Luke, Matthew Delucca and Masen Delucca; his siblings, William Sanborn of Lady Lake Florida, Carol Clark of Saratoga Springs, and Kathy (Bropfy) of Saratoga Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesdayy at the funeral home with the Rev. Derek Hansen, pastor of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will take place at Gerald B.H. Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Clyde’s family suggests memorial donations be made to the Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Co., Burgoyne Ave., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
