Charles E. “Skip” Gordon

Gordon, CharlesHUDSON FALLS – Charles E. “Skip” Gordon, 82, of Thomas Ave., passed into the arms of the Lord, at his home, with his family on his side, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

Born November 13, 1935, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Charles W. Gordon and Mary E. Lyons.

Skip graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1955.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army for five years.

On June 30, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara J. Constant, in Whitehall.

He worked at Patrician Paper Company in South Glens Falls for 12 years and Sandy Hill Corporation for 19 years and later for St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church for several years.  After his retirement, he spent several years volunteering at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church doing plumbing and mechanical work and various other jobs.

Skip was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  He was a member of the Boy Scouts, Troop 57, as Scout Master, for many years and served as a committee member for several years, earning his Order of the Arrow.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 83, in Whitehall, serving in the Color Guard for many years.  Skip was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed, hunting, fishing and ice fishing with his son and grandson Kyle and boating with his son, close friends and with his cousin Larry Jones, who helped make his last fishing trips most memorable. He also enjoyed bowling, and golfing. Skip was an avid New York Giants Fan, win or lose.

Skip was a very kindhearted person, helping others in every way, from mowing lawns, snow blowing driveways or cleaning up leaves.  Alongside his close friend, Alton Havens, he would help other people fix and repair things.

Besides his parents, Skip was predeceased by his son, Mark Gordon, who passed away May 27, 2003, his close friend, Alton Havens, his close brother in law, Richard Constant and many aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his wife for 60 years, Barbara J. Gordon of Hudson Falls; his son, John Gordon of Fort Edward; his daughter, Charlene Mandolare and her husband, Gary of Hudson Falls; his pride was his grandchildren, Jamie Sipowicz and her husband, Tadd of Fort Edward, Jessica McCane and her husband, Josh of South Glens Falls, Jeremy Gordon of Glens Falls, Kyle Corbett of Hudson Falls and his four great grandchildren, Aubrey Muratorri, Hannah, Dylan and Matthew McCane; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

The Memorial Mass will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

In lieu of flowers or plants, Skips family requests memorial donations be made to the Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Dept., 3715 Burgoyne Ave., Hudson Falls, New York 12839 or the St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church Restoration Fund, 11 Wall Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Skips family would like to thank Dr. Gillanni, Elizabeth Reinhardt and the Staff at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, the many friends to numerous to mention who helped in many ways and High Peaks Hospice, especially nurse’s Kelly and Jen.

    There were no strangers in Skip’s life, because all became his friends
    He was a gift and blessing to all who knew him. A kinder, more gentle and caring person does not walk the face of this Earth.
