Louis A. Navarro

NavarroFORT ANN – Louis A. Navarro, 65, of Fort Ann, passed away, on Monday, March 9, 2015, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born July 30, 1949, in Lon g Island, he was the son of the late Luis and Margaret (Stubbs) Navarro.

Louis was a graduate of Friends Academy in Long Island. He then obtained his Bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hofstra.

On April 4, 1986, Louis married Jeanette Cazull in Brooklyn.

Louis was a salesman for various companies, the last being Tip Systems in Houston, TX.

He enjoyed skiing, going hiking, gardening and bowling.  He loved spending time with people, especially his family and friends.  He also enjoyed family barbeques and meeting new people.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Jeanette Navarro; his three children, Alex Navarro and his wife, Hannah of Ithaca, Ashley Navarro and Dustin Navarro, both of Virginia Beach, VA; and his aunt, Lillian “Betty’ Stubbs of Jamaica, Queens.

Friends may call, Wednesday, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

A Memorial Service will follow on Wednesday at 6 pm, at the funeral home

Clarence Krause

KrauseQUEENSBURY – Clarence Krause, 87, of the Boulevard, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.

Clarence was born on November 21st, 1927 in Emaus, PA to Frederick and Florence (Miller) Krause, the third of four sons.

At the age of 14, he was apprenticed at his uncle’s print shop, where he learned the trade that he practiced all of his life, starting out with hand printing, all the way to modern day printing presses.

Clarence entered the United States Army in 1945, during the waning days of World War II, serving in Occupational Forces as a Military Policeman and a Battalion Occupation Clerk. While in Germany, he met the cousin of his future wife who invited him to visit him in Hudson Falls after he was discharged. There, Clarence met June Allen.  It was love at first sight, and after a courtship of five years they were married on July 15, 1951 at the Zion Episcopal Church in Hudson Falls.

In the years following his military service, Clarence returned to a career in printing, working for Glen Craft Printing, Majestic Printing and the Glens Falls Hospital Print Shop. He retired after 12 years of working for Warren County Print Shop. Clarence was very proud of his work and strived to do a wonderful job.

Clarence was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed being surrounded by family and never tired of telling stories about their accomplishments.

Clarence was a 39 year member of the Elks BPOE Lodge # 81 of Glens Falls and a lifetime member of the South Glens Falls Eagles.  He served on the executive board of the South Queensbury Fire department. He and his wife danced with the Merry Mohican Square Dance Club, enjoyed traveling and golfing at the Queensbury Country Club, where he was a member.

Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by two brothers; Leroy Krause who died in World War II and Stanwood Krause and a grandson Charles Krause.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, June A. Krause of Queensbury; his two children, Raymond Krause and Darlene (Jim) Tucker; his four grandchildren Eric Tucker, Lucas (Kirstin) Tucker, Rena (Shane) Larson and Anna Seerey; three great grandchildren; his mother-in-law Cecil Allen; daughter-in-law Martha Krause; his brother Paul Krause; two nieces; several great nieces and nephews; and many great, great nieces and nephews.

Friends are welcome to call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Memorial services will be conducted at 10am on Friday, March 13th at The Church of the Messiah, 296 Glen Street in Glens Falls.

A reception will follow the memorial services at the church hall located across the street form the church.

In lieu of flowers, Clarence’s family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Elks BPOE Lodge # 81 Major Projects Fund, 32 Cronin Road, Queensbury, NY 12804 or to the Church of the Messiah at 296 Glen St #1, Glens Falls NY 12801.

 

 

 

Sabo N. Sabo

SaboHUDSON FALLS – Sabo N. Sabo, 81, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on December 22, 1933, in Whitehall, he was the son of Sabo N. and Emma (Rodd) Sabo.

Sabo graduated from Whitehall High School and joined the United States Air Force, where he received a National Defense Service Medal of Honor.  Upon his discharge, he attended Castleton State Teacher’s College.  He was a retired Science teacher of 31 years from Hudson Falls Central where he was the teacher’s union leader for several years.   During his tenure at Hudson Falls, he and a colleague and friend, Craig McDonald, started Adirondack Pools.   Sabo was a scout leader for 17 years at the Mohican Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  He was also a member of the Tee Bird Country Club for several years.

Besides his parents, Sabo was predeceased by his son Stephen Sabo and his infant daughter, Nancy, as well as his brothers, Antonius Sabo, Elias Sabo and a sister, Freda Beebe.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Sabo; his children, Jonathan Sabo, Cynthia (Joseph) Didio, Diane “Pixie” Sabo, Barbara Joudry, and Christopher (Karen)  Sabo; his grandchildren, David Archambault, Benjamin, Christopher and Andrew Didio, Jonathan and Michael Sabo, Natalie and Emily Deuink and Madeline, Alexander and Benjamin Sabo; and four great grandchildren; his three brothers, Roland Sabo, Jacob (Mary) Sabo and Nicholas Sabo; three sisters, Helen Henderson, Agnes Shulenberg and Kay Lafond; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Sabo’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015, at the  Zion Episcopal Church Hall,(located behind the Zion Episcopal Church, 232 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Instead of flowers, please make donations in memory of Sabo to the SPCA of Upstate NY,  588 Queens bury Ave., Queensbury, NY  12804 or the Cornerstone Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 381, Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or the charity of one’s choice.

Clara M. Fredette

FredetteFORT ANN – Clara M. Fredette, 76, of Fort Ann, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, March 7, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born April 9, 1938, in Granville, she was the daughter of the late Leonard M. and Ella M. Winchell.

On March 26, 1960, Clara married Maurice Fredette in Granville.

Clara enjoyed babysitting, listening to country music, and singing.  She loved spending time in her garden and canning the fresh vegetables.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, putting together puzzles with her husband, and playing Super Nintendo, Mario Brothers.

Besides her parents, Clara was predeceased by her in laws, Charles and Iva Fredette and several of her sisters.

Survivors include her husband of almost 54 years, Maurice Fredette; her children, Charmane Fischer and her husband, Jack, Lewis Fredette and his wife, Sandy, Rhonda Carney and her companion, David Raymond; her grandchildren, Jeremy Fredette and his husband, Travers and Katelyn Fredette, her close family friends, John Wright, Roxanna Fredette; as well as her very close family friend and caregiver, Robin Wells; and several brothers and sisters.

Clara’s family would like to thank Colleen Peck for her devoted care given to Clara and Maurice.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 12 to 2 p.m., at the Calvary Family Life Center, 100 Sherman Ave., in Glens Falls.

Services will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday, at the Calvary Family Life Center.

Following the services, a celebration of her life will be held at the Fort Ann Firehouse, State Route 149, in Fort Ann.

Memorial donations in memory of Clara may be made to C.R. Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, New York 12801.

Peggy Yvonne DeVivo

DeVivoHUDSON FALLS – Peggy Yvonne DeVivo, 82, formerly of Reservoir Rd., passed away on Wednesday, March 04, 2015 at Indian River Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Granville.  

 Born on December 19, 1932, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Lyle and Ella (Rozelle) Brown.

 On February 5, 1956, Peggy married Michael DeVivo in Hudson Falls.  He passed away on November 5, 2010, after 54 years of marriage.

 She loved her work at Glens Falls Country Club as a waitress, second only to being a homemaker.  Peggy had many interests, including bird watching and anything pertaining to the weather.  She also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Peggy will be best remembered for her “feistiness”.

 Peggy was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls.

 In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was predeceased by a son, Paul James DeVivo, a sister, Dixie Fabrero and two brothers, Bobby John Brown and Lyle Brown.

 Survivors include her sons, Joseph DeVivo and his wife, Sherri of Moreau and Michael DeVivo and his wife, Jody of Hudson Falls; her two daughters, Katherine DeVivo of East Greenbush and Jennifer DeVivo-Baptiste and her husband, Andre of Brooklyn; her ten grandchildren, Joseph DeVivo, Jr., Matthew DeVivo, Brianna DeVivo, Abigail DeVivo, Elijah Blowers, Emma Blowers, Ethan Blowers, Jesse Blowers, Lucas Baptiste and Scarlett Baptiste; her two great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Beverly Cleavland of Glens Falls, Thomas Brown and his wife, Beverly of Hudson Falls, Norman Brown and his wife, Joan of South Glens Falls, Zella Elder of Fort Edward, Zadie Winslow of South Glens Falls; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 Friends may call on Saturday, from 11 to 1 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

 Following the calling hours, prayers will be offered by The Reverend Tony Childs, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

 The Rite of Committal will be conducted in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.

 Peggy’s family suggests that memorial donations in her memory be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Norman Clifford Sweet

Sweet armySweetHUDSON FALLS – Norman Clifford Sweet, 81, of Lower Feeder Street and a former resident of John Street, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015, at home.

Born December 31, 1933 in Wakefield, RI, he was the son of the late Clifford Henry and Beatrice (Irish) Sweet.

Norman proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  While in the Army, he excelled as a sharp shooter and taught other servicemen this skill.

On January 29, 1956, he married Patricia Huntington at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.  They lived in Lady Lake, FL for 20 years. They were married for 50 wonderful years when Patricia passed away on October 1, 2006.

Norman was employed by CIBGA Cigy for 33 years.

He enjoyed hunting deer in the Adirondacks and at one time he was a member of the Hudson Falls Fish and Game Club.    Norman was an avid reader, enjoying books written by Louis L’Amour and Stephen King.   He was also a lifetime Yankee’s baseball fan.  Norman was a quiet man who liked people on his terms.  He was a great father to his five children and loved his cat, Rusty.   Norman was extremely close to his granddaughter, Jessica who made his life fuller during his last days.

Besides his parents and wife, Norman was predeceased by his brother, Richard Sweet and his great granddaughter, Alivia Jane Sweet.

Survivors include his five children, Clifford Kip” Sweet and his longtime companion, Tammy Clark of Glens Falls, Lynn Webb and her husband, Richard of Hudson Falls, Robert Sweet and his wife, Amy of Queensbury, Patricia Jean Porter and her husband, Jeff of Fort Ann, and Patrick John Sweet and his wife, Sue of Wilton; his 14 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norman’s family wishes to thank the staff at High Peaks Hospice, especially Barb, Beth, Bill, Sue and Ellie and ICEP especially Rhonda Lee, for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Norman and his family.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal and full military honors will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Frances (Pagano) Combs

GLENS FALLS – Frances (Pagano) Combs, 79, of Stichman Towers, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at The Pines in Glens Falls.

Born on January 5, 1936, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Martella) Pagano.

In 1964, she married Lowell Combs and began her family, raising her two children, Joe and Paula.  Her family was the center of her life.   She was a loving mother and an adoring grandmother to Brandon and Sean.   Frances also loved animals, especially her grandpuppy “Oreo”.

She was a humble, faithful servant of the Lord, who lived her life according to her faith.  Frances was a kind woman with a warm heart.   She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

Frances also enjoyed traveling all over the country and going out to eat with her family.  She was an avid hockey fan and treasured the time she spend going to games with her son, Joe and grandson, Brandon.   Frances always looked forward to attending family events.  One of the joys of her life was spending time with her friends at Stichman Towers, especially Betty and her late friend, Tina.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Mario Pagano, Paul Pagano, and Sebastian Pagano.

She is survived by her two loving children, Joe Combs of Queensbury and Paula Canary and her husband, James of Saratoga Springs; her daughter in law, Susan Combs of Glens Falls; her two grandchildren, Brandon Combs and Sean Canary, both of Saratoga Springs; her siblings, Anthony Pagana and his wife, Elaine of Fort Edward, Carmello Pagano and his wife, Dorothy of El Dorado Hills, CA and John Pagano and his wife, Janet of Queensbury; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

The family expresses a heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Pines for the wonderful care and compassion given to Frances and her family.
