Bruce B. Joiner

JoinerGansevoort – Bruce B. Joiner, 58, of Gansevoort, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, July 12, 2014.

Born on October 1, 1955, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Irma (Blackmer) Joiner of South Glens Falls and the late Claude Joiner.

Bruce was a graduate of Queensbury High School.

He served in the United States Army in Alaska. He then served 20 years in the Army National Guard. He was proud to receive the National Defense Service Medal.

Bruce married Wanda Wood on June 1, 1988, in Gansevoort.

He worked for the New York State Thruway and Canal Corporation as a lock tender at Lock 3 in Mechanicville for over 25 years.

Bruce was a member of the Adirondack Christian Fellowship and enjoyed hunting and was a diehard Yankee fan. Bruce Joiner was proud of two things, serving his country, which he loved, and most of all his beloved grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his mother in law Mabel Wood and his father in law, Clarence Wood.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Wanda (Wood) Joiner of Gansevoort; his mother, Irma Joiner of South Glens Falls; his three daughters, Starr Slingerland and her husband, James of Queensbury, Kelli Hufstetler and her husband, Shannon of Gansevoort and Megan Dean of Kingsbury; his grandchildren, Logan Darrah, Amira Almontaser, Jerome Slingerland and Travis and Tyler Fitzgerald; his sister, Leslie Baxter and her husband Chris of South Glens Falls; his brother Larry joiner of Plattsburgh; his sister Dawn Joiner of Troy; his sisters in law, Donna Sherrange of Corinth, Doris Hoag of Gansevoort; and several special nieces and nephews to whom he was very close.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Carleton Funeral Home, inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Cohen, pastor of the Adirondack Christian Fellowship, officiating.

Burial, with full military honors will take place at 2 P.M. Friday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga national Veteran’s Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

Bruce’s family suggests that memorial donations in his memory be made to any local adopt a soldier organization.

Charlotte Gaulin

HUDSON FALLS – It is with great sorrow that the family of Charlotte Gaulin, 89, has to announce her returning to the arms of our Lord, on July 12, 2014, after a long convalescence.

A life-long resident of Washington County, she was born Charlotte Marie Lewis, daughter of Ava LaFarr and Everett Lewis of Fort Edward and grew up on McCrea Street there with her two brothers, Robert Lewis and Donald Lewis, the latter of whom passed away four years ago.

After graduating from Fort Edward High School she married her husband of 70 years, Lester Gaulin, and moved to School Street in Hudson Falls, where they raised a family of four boys: James, Thomas, Keith, and David, all of whom still live in this area with the exception of David who lives in Boston. While raising her family she occasionally took employment at General Electric, the First National Bank, the Pender-Towley Shop and the Fort Hudson Nursing Home.

Besides her children and husband, she is also survived by her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and was greatly loved by all of her family. Having been surrounded by males her entire life, she was particularly fond of her daughter in law, Susan Gaulin, who brought her much comfort over the final years of her life and became the confidant she had never had.   She is also survived by her beloved sisters in law, Therese Lewis of Fort Edward, now living in New Jersey, and Fannie Gaulin of Hudson Falls and their six and five children respectively.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that any donations be made in her name to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 226, Fort Edward, New York 12828.

It was Charlotte’s wish to be cremated and although there will be no wake or funeral, a graveside ceremony will be held at the Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater at a later date.

We rejoice that she is now in Heaven with her brother and parents and although it is hard to imagine life without her we are consoled in the knowledge that she was surrounded by family and love until her last breath. May she rest in peace.

Diane M. Volpe

VolpeHUDSON FALLS – Diane M. Volpe, 65, of Hudson Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born September 30, 1948 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Janette(Leclaire) Gorham Sr.

On February 11, 1967, Diane married Monty Volpe at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.

Diane enjoyed Bingo and playing the slots at casinos.  She loved the ocean and summer vacations with family and friends.  Diane was an avid reader, loved camping, doing crafts, and enjoyed meeting people.

Besides her parents, Diane was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Gorham, Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Monty Volpe of Hudson Falls; her children, Tina Nassivera and her husband, Robert of Fort Edward, Tracy Fowler and her husband, David of Hudson Falls, Monty Volpe and his girlfriend, Trina of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Christi Mozo and her husband, Alex, Carrie Nassivera, Jeremy Fowler, Justin Fowler;  her great-grandson, Nathaniel Mozo; her siblings Sally Covell and her husband, Frank of Saratoga, Jean Bull and her husband, Gifford of Saratoga, Lorrie Carpenter of Fort Edward; her sisters in law, Kay Gorham of Fort Edward, Marie Ludeke of Hudson Falls, Gloria LaFountain and her husband, Reginald of Glens Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and her very special friends, June Bartlett and Valorie Pepitone.

Family and friends may call Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, in Hudson Falls, with Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will take place at the convenience of the family.

Kevin L. Barrows

BarrowsobitHUDSON FALLS & SCHROON LAKE – Kevin Leon Barrows, 55, of Hudson Falls and Schroon Lake, “turned the page”, on July 8, 2014, to join his beloved parents and brother.

Born June 28, 1959, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Dale and Barbara Barrows.

On July 23, 1983, Kevin married Sharon Seymour.  Over a 30 year span they raised their son, Kevin Keith, who was their greatest accomplishment, prideB and joy.  Their grandson, Masen “Buster” was the light of his “Poppy’s” life.

Kevin spent most of his life working alongside his father and brothers, for Barrows Paving.  He was then employed for several trucking companies.  He also served in the National Guard, where he was a part of the 646th Medical Co.  His platoon worked for the1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.

Kevin was an avid outdoorsman.  Hunting and fishing was his passion.  The Schroon Lake Camp, also known as the “Desolate Hunting Club” became his favorite destination, where he spent many seasons teaching his son to hunt alongside his family, best friends, and Schroon Lake family.  He loved and cherished his family and friends more than words can say.  The camp was also a gathering place for numerous parties, such as the Annual Labor Day Rib Roast.

Kevin had a special ability of making sure all his friends and family were comfortable and having a great time.  He had a knack for giving everyone a nickname.

His last wish was to express how much he loved his family and friends.

Besides his parents, Dale and Barbara Barrows, and brother, Randy “Rudy” Barrows, Kevin was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his brother in law, Craig “Goober” Wever, his sister in law, Rhonda Stockwell, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Survivors include the love of his life, Sharon “Muggins” Barrows; his son, Kevin “Louy” Barrows; his daughter in law, Tammy Barrows;  his grandchildren, Masen “Buster” Barrows, Will and Alyssa Knapp; his siblings, Nancy “Pooh” Wever, Dale “Dauber” Barrows(Penny), Connie “Cow” Barrows (Nick), Vicki “Turtle” Ryerson (Randy); his parents in law, Joyce and Keith Seymour; his sisters in law, Judy Vanness (Jim), Karen Chandler (Matt), Carla Barrows (John), his brother in law, Lex  Seymour ( Carrie); his extended family, Barbie Seymour, Jeff French; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The families would like to thank all of our friends for the love and support they have given us in the difficult time.

You will be greatly missed, until we “turn the page” and meet again.  “See ya in the woods, Bro!”

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the New beginnings Church at 487 Dix Avenue in Queensbury.

A memorial service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church with Pastor . Randy Gross,  officiating.

Paul H. Collins, Sr

CollinsMOREAU – Paul H. Collins, Sr., 76, of Moreau, passed away July 9, 2014, at Saratoga Hospital, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born February 17, 1938, in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Sanford E. Collins and Mildred (Ostrander) Collins. in Hudson Falls

He attended and graduated from Hudson Falls High School.  Following high school, Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Korea from 1956 to 1959.

He married Phyllis M. Hoag on June 21, 1959 at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Paul was the proud owner of Paul H. Collins Trucking and The Wayside Tavern, both in Hudson Falls. Paul and Phyllis also were the previous owners of Smoke Rise Campgrounds in Pottersville.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge Elks Lodge # 81 of Glens Falls and Queensbury.  Paul enjoyed camping, golfing, NASCAR, snowmobiling and spending time with his family. He was there for anyone in need.  Paul’s generous and caring ways will be remembered by many forever.

Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Sanford A. (Skip) Collins, his sister in law, Jean Collins, his brother in law, Ronald Rich and his mother and father in law, William J (Bill) and Ernestine M. Hoag.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis M. Collins of Moreau; his children, Lori Strassburg and her husband, Walt, Paul H. Collins, Jr., and his wife, Laurie, Brian D. Collins and partner, Kara Moak, all of Moreau; six granchildren, Walter P. Strassburg and his wife, Jennifer of Rochester, Robert Strassburg, Courtney Collins, Cari Collins, Emily Collins and Alyssa Collins, all of Moreau; his great grandson, Walter S. Strassburg of Rochester; his brother, Ted Collins and his wife, Joanne of Moreau; his sister in law, Sharlene Rich of Moreau; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins and his grand dog, Abby, his pride and joy and always by his side.

Paul will be remembered by all for his optimistic and positive attitude throughout his illness.  He will be greatly missed.

Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Gospel Lighthouse Assemblies of God Church on 30 LaCrosse St. in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Mead, pastor officiating.

Interment, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls, will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the excellent doctors, nurses, and receptionist of Saratoga Oncology and Hematology for making him feel so cared for, lifting his spirits, and making him smile at each visit.

Thomas R. Yole, Sr.

Yole 1Yole 2HUDSON FALLS & QUEENSBURY – Thomas R. Yole, Sr., 83 formerly of 94 Oak Street in Hudson Falls and more recently of Angel Lane in Queensbury, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, July 6, 2014.

Born on June 13, 1931 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late William J. and Clara (Beecher) Yole. On June 30, 1951, Tom married Patricia White at St. Mary’s in Hudson Falls. She passed away on December 17, 1992. He married his second wife, Patricia Busher Taylor on May 7, 1994 at St. Mary’s in Hudson Falls and Adirondack Friends Meeting in South Glens Falls.

In 1948, Tom graduated from Hudson Falls High School and continued his education at SUNY Albany, graduating in 1952. He then received his Masters in Math and Science from Union College in Schenectady.

Following graduation from SUNY Albany, Tom started his teaching career in 1952 at Fort Ann School District. He then continued his love of mathematics education at Lake George School District, Hudson Falls School District and Glens Falls School District until 1972. Starting in 1972, Tom was the Hudson Falls Jr. High Principal, until his retirement in June of 1986. During his career, he was an instructor at the Education Department at the University of New Brunswick, Canada and at the University of Prince Edward Island, also in Canada.

Tom was a Mathematics consultant for American Cooperative Schools in Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. He also taught an in service course in mathematics for elementary teachers at BOCES. He belonged to several education organizations. Tom was a member of the National Education Association, New York State Teachers Association, Tri-County Teachers Association, Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State, National Council of Teacher of Mathematics, Mohawk-Hudson Valley Area Mathematics Association, Glens Falls Teachers Association, where he was president and first chief negotiator, School Administrators Association of New York State and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

From 1965 to 1972, Tom was very involved in his community, having served as Town Councilman for the Town of Kingsbury, where he was secretary-treasurer of the Inter-municipal Water Survey Committee. One of his proudest involvements was as treasurer of the Hudson Falls-Kingsbury Swimming Pool Committee. This committee raised funds and solicited labor to complete an outdoor pool which was given, debt free, to the Town of Kingsbury. Tom was also on the Board of Directors for the Washington County Unit of the American Cancer Society and chairman of the first Swim – a-Thon. He once served as Chairman of the United Way Drive for the Village of Hudson Falls and the Hudson Falls Central School. Tom was also a trustee for the Hudson Falls Free Library.

 Throughout Tom’s life, his love of family, his love of children and education, his love of community and service can be seen through his giving back as husband, father, grandfather, educator and as a pillar of the community.

Besides his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Richard Yole, James Yole, Jack Yole, Gerald Yole and Rosemarie Hafner.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Patricia Yole; his children, Susan Kearns and her husband, Gerald, Barbara Scherer and her husband, Hans, Diane Yole, TR Yole and his wife, Mary, Patti Barrett, Jeffrey “Spit” Yole, Lisa Webb, Scott Yole and Mary Beth Moreau and her significant other, William McCullen, Sr.; his step children, Susan Pate and her husband, Michael, Anni Stewart and Peter Taylor and his wife, Kathy; his grandchildren, Keith Scherer and his wife, Casey, Hans Scherer and his wife, Michele, Andrew and Lindsay Yole, Shannan Wierzbicki and her husband, Tim, Timmy Barrett, Jr. and his wife, Nikki , Jennifer Bardin and her significant other, Jay Riehl, Todd Barrett and his wife, Lisa, Connor and Colton Webb, Kaitlin Ingalls Faour and her husband, Rabie, Lauren and Ian Moreau and Ryan Patrick Johnson; his step grandchildren, Julie Wardell and her husband, Judd, Taylor Stewart and his wife, Lisa, Christina Taylor and her husband, Sasha Tochilosky, Alexander Taylor, Kelsey Taylor, Tracy Brayton and her husband, Jeff, Michael Stewart and Jed Stewart and his wife, Jean; 13 great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; his brother Robert Yole and his wife, Helen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Hudson Falls Middle School, 131 Notre Dame Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. Bearers will be his grandsons.

Dorothy Louise Eveleth Heidorf

Eveleth, Dorothy Louise Heidorf 1943 bARGYLE – Dorothy Louise Eveleth Heidorf passed away at Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, NY on July 1, 2014 at approximately 10:45 pm in the presence of most immediate family members and friends.

Dorothy was born in Lewiston, Maine on the 19 March 1926, the daughter of Bernard S. and Mildred L. Harlow Eveleth.  She was married to Thomas H. Heidorf  II, son of Thomas I and Dorothy Mayhew on 18 September 1943 in Greenville, SC while Tom was serving in the US Army Air Force during WWII and preparing to deploy overseas.  Tom passed away in December 1995.  She worked at the Watervleit Arsenal during the yearly years of World War II and was a practical nurse in a Troy hospital from 1944-1945.

After the War, Tom and Dorothy brought 11 children into this world, the third, Anne, who passed away in early November of 1949 from crib death at the age of 6 weeks.  They moved from the family home on Elm Street in Hudson Falls in 1954 to a farm in Argyle, NY to continue raising the family which included Barbara, Thomas III, Christian, Richard, Jane, Patty, Susan, David, Phillip and Hudson.  They adopted and raised two additional children, Harrison and Kathy. Tom and Dorothy provided a loving, nurturing, secure environment on the farm for their children to grow up in.  Both Dorothy and Tom worked at jobs with local Corporations to provide for the family.

Services for Dorothy will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., in Hudson Falls.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256

Susan Pauline Tracy

TracySOUTH GLENS FALLS – Susan Pauline Tracy, 69, of South Glens Falls, passed away with her husband by her side, on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the West Mount Health Care and Rehab Center, after a long battle with cancer.

Born August 6, 1944, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Grace DeMers.

Susan was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  On May 9, 1965, she married Edward J. Tracy at St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Susan worked for police dispatch in the village of South Glens Falls, and was co-owner, operator of Wash N’ Dry Laundromat in Corinth.  She also was a daycare provider for many children over the years.

She enjoyed camping and traveling from Quebec to Florida.  Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren and he

r great-grandchild.

Besides her parents, Susan was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Vrooman, and a grandson, Brayden Tracy.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Edward Tracy of South Glens Falls; her children, Elizabeth Stuver and her husband, Thomas of Fairport, Lynn Billington and her husband, Floyd of South Glens Falls, Pamela Youker and her husband, Steve of South Glens Falls, Michael Tracy and his wife, Bristie of South Glens Falls; eight grandchildren, Nicole Stuver, Matthew Stuver, Amanda Brueder and her boyfriend, Brandon Boyer, Heather Billington, Travis Billington, Bryce Brueder, Michaela Tracy, Juliana Tracy; her great-grandaughter, Alina Boyer;her siblings, David DeMers and his wife, Marti of New Paltz, Carol Grant of Hudson Falls;  as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street., in Hudson Falls.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church officiating.
